Remember the Fund It Frog that earns money for charity as you shop online? Here’s another service that uses affiliate links to raise money for charity.

Good.ly, produced by the folks at Skimlinks, is a straightforward URL shortener. Simply enter a URL into the box on the homepage and click the ‘Make it Good’ button. If possible, the shortened URL will also act as an affiliate link from which 55% of any revenue earned goes to charity. At the moment they have three charities on board: Dogs Trust, Crisis and ChildVoice International but they are open to new charities signing up. There is also an option to support all available charities.

There is also a nifty bookmarklet so that you can shorten URLs as you browse the internet.

Check out the Miss Good.ly Two Shoes blog and their Twitter feed for updates.

Affiliate links. A fantastic way to make money online? Or, as Jason Calcanis argues below, the latest form of internet pollution?

On MoneySavingExpert.com, Martin Lewis marks all the affiliate links in his content with an asterisk in order to main absolute transparency for his readers. It is also worth noting that the affiliate links are added after the content is written and if no affiliate link is available for the service being recommended then the site makes no commission from referrals to that service. He argues that the content of many other financial service comparison sites is driven by which affiliates pay the most.

While keeping the site free to use and free of advertisements, the revenue has also allowed Martin to give away more than £100,000 to charity via the MoneySavingExpert.com charitable fund.

Transparency with customers and giving money to charity? Lovely!
